BEKASI – The spread of the corona virus in Bekasi City continues to increase and is increasingly worrying to this day. This condition is exacerbated by the decreasing number of ICU (Intensive Care Unit) rooms for the isolation of patients exposed to the corona virus.
The chairman of the Bekasi City Private Hospital Association, Eko Nugroho, said that the ICU room for isolating patients in his area currently only has three beds. According to him, this is a problem if the spread of Covid-19 continues to soar in recent weeks.
“Currently there are three beds left for the ICU room for patients with severe symptoms of Covid-19. There are 45 private hospitals in Bekasi City that serve the handling of Covid-19,” he said, Thursday (17/9). Currently, he said, the demand for isolation for patients exposed to Covid-19 is very high.
This was seen after a private hospital in Bekasi City only provided 199 beds, now it has increased to 550. “The mattress that is filled to this day is still 428, it is only for corona patients with mild symptom levels. For severe symptoms there are 51 beds and now only three are left, “he said.
Eka explained, the isolation room for corona patients with severe symptoms needed a ventilator. However, due to budget constraints, the hospital did not add much isolation space for patients with severe symptoms. With the current condition, he is worried that the possibility of the death rate will be high.
Especially patients who have severe symptoms or have a history of congenital diseases. The reason is, first aid for Covid-19 patients with severe symptoms becomes difficult to handle if the room is not equipped with standard medical treatment. “We have told the government,” he said.
