Most people with pre-eclampsia have high blood pressure characteristics.

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA – Some pregnant women are at risk of developing pre-eclampsia or pregnancy complications marked by high blood pressure. But what is important to know is that pre-eclampsia is not the same as hypertension.

Pre-eclampsia has no specific symptoms. However, most people with pre-eclampsia are characterized by high blood pressure and protein in the urine. Pre-eclampsia usually begins after 20 weeks’ gestation in women with normal blood pressure.

Specialist in internal medicine Rudy Kurniawan said pre-eclampsia can only occur during pregnancy. He also stressed that pre-eclampsia is not a hypertensive disease.

“If we talk about hypertension is the same as pre-eclampsia? Of course not, because hypertension is a part of pre-eclampsia. And why can pre-eclampsia occur? There are many factors,” Rudy said in Tropicana Slim online talks, Saturday (1 / 8).

Some of the factors that cause pre-eclampsia include disorders of general nerve metabolism such as obesity, hormonal and genetic.

“Obesity disorders are usually higher risk of experiencing pre-eclampsia, then there is hormonal. During pregnancy, hormonal changes occur in the body and hormone interactions occur with the fetus,” said Dr. Rudy.

“There are certain conditions that increase the risk of pre-eclampsia such as genetic conditions, if it gets worse it will become eclampsia,” Rudy continued.

To prevent the condition of pre-eclampsia, it is better for pregnant women to always adopt a healthy lifestyle, maintain food intake and always routinely check for pregnancy.
