Parliament meets in extraordinary session on 13 August

The Speaker of the National Assembly Tsveta Karayancheva convenes an extraordinary sitting of the Parliament on Thursday, August 13, at 9 am. Parliament will sit at the request of the BSP.

According to the agenda set by the Socialists, on Thursday the parliament must first vote on a draft resolution obliging the government to submit a budget update to the National Assembly within 7 days due to the socio-economic measures to overcome the consequences of the Covid crisis.

The Red MPs also want Prime Minister Boyko Borissov and Interior Minister Hristo Terziiski to be heard on the violence against journalists and protesters during GERB’s National Conference last week.

On August 6, just a week after the deputies went on vacation, the left submitted a request to convene an extraordinary sitting of the National Assembly. The Rules of Procedure of the National Assembly stipulate that at the request of one-fifth of the Members of Parliament, the Speaker of Parliament shall schedule a sitting no later than 7 days after the receipt of the request, regardless of whether the deputies are on vacation or not.
