Operators of Prague’s swimming pools, camps, monuments and museums also saw a decline in the number of customers this summer.
Compared to last year, only about a third of people visited many popular tourist places. The reason for the drop in attendance is the decrease in foreign tourists in the metropolis caused by the coronavirus pandemic.
The decrease in guests from abroad was reflected in lower attendance at, for example, Prague Castle or the Petrin Lookout Tower, which is managed by the Museum of the Capital City. In August, according to the museum’s spokeswoman Olga Šámalová and the spokesperson of the Prague Castle Administration, Jan Pastor, they recorded about a quarter of the number of visitors compared to last year.
Operators of summer swimming pools in the Moravian-Silesian Region rate this season as below average.
According to them, the lower attendance was due to rainy weather, but also to hygienic restrictions due to the coronavirus pandemic. The operators of the swimming pools told ČTK.
“The season was not tragic, but it was below average compared to the ones we have experienced here in 30 years. Even those 14 warm days in August did not catch up with the losses that started in May, June and continued in July,” in the Novojičín region Rudolf Korčák.
