Reports were high that Vivo would withdraw from IPL sponsorship only this season. Vivo will return in 2021 and will continue until 2023. The BCCI reckons that sponsoring the Vivo IPL this season could spark fan outrage as the ongoing border disputes with China are heating up. In this context, the BCCI decided to suspend Vivo temporarily. Therefore, the BCCI is looking for a sponsor for this season only.
The IPL contract with Vivo is till 2022. During this period, the BCCI will receive sponsorship revenue of `2199 crore.

The IPL will be held in the UAE from September 19 to November 10. There will be 53 matches and 10 double headers in five cities. The evening matches will start at 7.30 pm (UAE time 6). Earlier, the BCCI had decided to hold the IPL from September 26 to November 8. The IPL matches scheduled for March 29 were extended indefinitely after Kovid.
