More than 200,000 people have died of coronavirus in Latin America – News

Lima, August 2 / BTA /
The death toll from the new coronavirus in Latin America exceeded 200,000 on Saturday night. This is shown by Reuters calculations, emphasizing the status of the region as one of the global epicenters of the pandemic.
Brazil and Mexico, in addition to the United States, report more victims of the virus than any other country, and together account for about 70 percent of deaths at the regional level.
Both sides are working to balance the need to limit the spread of the virus with security measures and attempts to reopen their economies, which have been hit hard by the crisis.
Brazil reported a daily record of 1,595 deaths earlier this week and another 1,088 last night.
Mexico registered 784 deaths on Saturday and more than 9,000 new infections for the first time.
Other Latin American countries are also struggling to control the situation. The region has crossed the 200,000 death threshold after Peru reported 191 new deaths.
