“Insulin works to open the cell door so it’s like a key. If insulin sticks to cells that open the entry of sugar is used for energy in the body,” explained Dr. Roy Panusnan Sibarani SpPD-KEMD, FES in a discussion via Zoom, Wednesday (05/08/2020 ).
Diabetes is a condition that interferes with the body’s ability to process blood glucose. There are many types, but the popular type 1 and type 2.
There are at least 4 known types of diabetes, namely:
1. Diabetes type 1
Someone in this category, usually affected when he was young around the age of 8 and 9 years. However, sometimes a little older is the age of 17 and 18 years.
People with type 1 diabetes are dependent on insulin which means they have to consume artificial insulin.
“If he (sufferers) type 1 diabetes already can not release insulin, it’s finished,” explained Dr. Roy.
2. Type 2 diabetes
Someone who is vulnerable to this category is an adult who eats a lot but is lazy to exercise.
Lazy moves make the belly more fat. This causes insulin resistant, namely the condition of the body’s cells can not use blood sugar properly.
“Insulin cannot stick to the cell so the door cannot be opened, insulin is not absent but cannot stick properly,” said Dr. Roy.
3. Diabetes gestational
Also called gestational diabetes. This type occurs in pregnant women so it does not occur in all women and usually heals after giving birth.
4. Other types of diabetes
Someone categorized this type if not another type. This type of diabetes is not related to blood sugar levels, but because there is a nutritional deficiency of insulin levels to the brain.
