Angry residents of Beirut have demanded an explanation from the government for the tragedy that befell the city. Social networks are full of questions and accusations. Authorities say several chiefs at the port where the blast broke out have been arrested. The basic version is that they improperly stored more than 2,700 tons of ammonium nitrate, which caused the explosion.
At the same time, Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch called for an independent, international investigation.

US President Donald Trump has raised additional doubts about the case. He did not rule out that the explosion was caused intentionally. “I can tell you that whatever the reason, what happened is terrible, but they themselves do not really know what it is. We are currently checking it. How can you say it’s an accident? What if someone left some horrible explosive device? It may have happened that way. It may have been an attack. I don’t think there is anyone who can be sure for now. We are checking it thoroughly, “Trump said.
