It has already been reported that another Latvian cyclist from Kuldiga, Krists Neilands, will debut “Tour de France” next week.
The Tour de France, which is deservedly considered one of the largest sporting events in the world, is celebrating its 107th anniversary this year. In recent years, it has been customary to see Latvian cyclists on the tour again.
The leaders of the team in the fight for high places will be the Australian Richie Porte and the Dutchman Bauke Molema. Last year, Richie took 11th place in the overall rating.
The herringbone will be among the main porters. At the same time, if the opportunities arise themselves, the Latvian will have to use them. Last year, Tom finished ninth in the 17th stage, but in 2018, he finished fifth in one of the stages, as well as rode in the mountain king’s shirt for several stages.
Last year, Skujiņš finished in the 81st position in the overall rating.
The last time two Latvians were together in the “Tour de France” was in 2002. At that time, Arvis Piziks and Raivis Belohvoščiks each rode in their team.
The Tour de France will start on August 29 and end on September 20 in the Champs Elysées.
Trek-Segafredo team composition:
