Islamabad: India has decided to buy 36 Rafale fighter jets from France as part of augmenting its air force. Five of them arrived at the Ambala airbase the previous day, leaving Pakistan stranded. Aisha Farooqi, a spokeswoman for Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, accused India of buying too much arms.
Defense experts say the RAF warplanes will greatly increase the strength of the Indian Air Force. Meanwhile, Pakistan’s Ministry of External Affairs expressed concern over India’s action. India bought Sukhoi fighter jets from Russia in 1997. Now, 23 years later, India is buying Rafale fighter jets. Pakistan complains that India is buying more weapons than it needs. India is upgrading its nuclear weapons and increasing its capacity. Pakistan has blamed commercial interests for all this.
Pakistan’s allegations against India come amid criticism from around the world for preparing a base for terrorists. The first batch of five Rafale fighter jets arrived at the Ambala airbase yesterday evening.
