World famous Volendam hotel Spaander is bankrupt Inland

The hotel had been closed since March 21 due to the corona crisis. The website said: “To ensure the health of our guests and our employees, we believe that closing the entire hotel is best for now.”

Spaander, which is officially called Art Hotel Spaander, is full of paintings. Founder Leendert Spaander had artists work in the hotel at the end of the 19th century, who were inspired by Volendam and (then) the Zuiderzee. Three of Spaander’s daughters married artists.

The hotel was very popular with Asian tourists, but has been severely affected by the corona crisis.

In 2015, the hotel was taken care of by Herman den Blijker for the RTL4 series Herrie in Hotel Spaander. A year later it made the news because it had closed the toilets in the restaurant for day visitors. Many Asian visitors appeared to stand on the toilet seat to do their needs and not to flush the used toilet paper but to throw it on the floor.

It is not clear whether this bankruptcy is final or whether the owners want to make a restart.
