The official news of the UAE can now be heard in five new languages including Malayalam. Others are Sri Lanka’s Sinhala, Indonesian, Bengali and Pashtu languages. This is according to the decision of the National Media Council, which aims to make the news in the UAE accessible to people of different languages. Wham News was already available in Arabic, English, French, Italian, Chinese, Russian, Spanish, Persian, German, Turkish, Portuguese, and Urdu. Dr Sultan bin Ahmed Al Jaber, Chairman of the National Media Council, said that the new languages were aimed at expanding the UAE’s media sector and strengthening its regional and international position in light of the recent global changes. He said the new languages would support cultural diversity and strengthen the UAE’s cultural diversity.
