Uthra’s death: Questioning her husband and a snake-hauler


Kollam: The crime branch has questioned her husband Sooraj and snake-hacker Kaluvatukkal native in connection with the death of the woman who was bitten by a snake in Anchal. Crime Branch DySP Ashok Kumar, who took over the case from the police, is in charge of the investigation.

Her sister Suraj was taken into custody yesterday by her husband, who died under mysterious circumstances. Utra had bitten the snake at Sooraj’s house. But the snake was bitten, not from the bedroom, but in the yard, the sister said.

The Crime Branch took charge of the case yesterday evening on the direction of Kottarakkara Rural SP. Utrak, a native of Anchal, was bitten twice. She was first bitten by a snake on March 2 at her husband’s home in Sooraj. The snake bite was confirmed when he was rushed to the hospital after suffering a leg pain at night. Subsequently he was treated for 16 days at the private medical college in Thiruvalla.

The woman died of snake bite again on May 6 while she was undergoing treatment at her home. The victim’s husband Suraj was also at the house that day. Suraj’s suspicion at the time of the woman’s death was confirmed. Airholes are a fully closed AC room. It is not usual to open the windows. Relatives suspect how the snake entered the room.

The snake was found in the bedroom of the second floor of Suraj’s house two days before he was bitten. Soon after the incident, Uthra had told his relatives that Sooraj came and grabbed the snake in his hand and carried it in his sack. Sooraj is married to Uthra in 2018. Relatives say that one hundred gave gold and money as dowry. The complaint lodged with police alleges that Sooraj raped Uttra several times for demanding money.
