The US Commerce Department said last night that it was adding 33 more Chinese companies and other organizations to its blacklist for human rights abuses and for “activities contrary to US national security and foreign policy interests,” Reuters reported.

Nine companies and organizations have been charged with “complicity in human rights abuses during the Chinese campaign of repression, mass arrests, forced labor and state-of-the-art surveillance” against the Muslim Uighur minority in the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region in western China. reports BTA.

The list also includes 24 government and trade organizations for participating in China’s scientific and technological intelligence and for “assisting in the purchase of end-use goods and technology for military use in China.”
