On Sunday, an Iranian agency quoted the first statements of the new Iranian Shura Council Speaker, Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf, after his election to succeed Ali Larijani.
The Iranian “Fars” news agency quoted Qalibaf, who said, “The 11th session of the Iranian Shura Council considers negotiations with the United States harmful and without result, as it represents the focus of global arrogance.”
Qalibaf pointed out in his speech that the mission of the new council is solidarity, unity and harmony among the various deputies to solve the problems of Iran and its people facing sanctions and other crucial challenges.
Qalibaf stressed that “the council can guide the government towards the required entity within the frameworks of Ayatollah Khamenei’s recommendations,” saying that “the Islamic revolution was able to establish the most important competing model for the global capitalist system.”
It is noteworthy that Muhammad Baqir Qalibaf worked as an officer in the Revolutionary Guards and held several positions, most notably when he became governor of Tehran between 2005 and 2017, and was a leader of the headquarters of Khatim al-Anbiya for Reconstruction in the period between 1994 and 1997.
He commanded the Air Force in the Revolutionary Guards from 1997 to 2000, and was head of the Iranian police from 2000 to 2005.
