On May 22, 2020 in Sofia died one of the most successful athletes in Bulgaria from the 60s and 70s of the twentieth century – Zlati Valchev. He was born in 1943 in Aytos and from the generation of Aytos sprinters, who impress with talent and enthusiasm selectors of the capital’s clubs, announced the Municipality of Aytos. Valchev is a three-time Balkan champion in the 400 m and a three-time Balkan champion in the 800 m run.
As a competitor of the Sports Club “Spartak” – Sofia, in the 400 m run Zlatko Valchev improved for the first time the national record of the Balkan Games in Sofia on September 14, 1963 (48.4). Exactly a year later (at the next Balkan Games in Bucharest) Valchev for the first time “descends” under 48 seconds – 47.9. The promising sprinter is one of the few winners of the so-called Meveriadi (competitions of the employees of the Ministry of Interior of the socialist countries) – on August 6, 1966 in Minsk he brought our record to 47.3.
The funeral of Zlati Valchev will be on May 27, 2020 in Sofia.
