The prosecutor’s office announced that the tennis player will appear in court on July 16. Basilashvili himself denies having done anything wrong.
Basilashvili was detained on charges of beating his ex-wife in the presence of their child in Tbilisi. For such an offense, the tennis player can be sentenced to community service of 200 to 400 hours or imprisonment for between 1 and 3 years.
The Georgian is a regular participant in the Sofia Open tournament in the last three editions, playing in the semifinals in 2017, which he lost to Grigor Dimitrov.
