On in a publication on the university’s website it is reported that they are examined two women with a positive test for the coronavirus who are breastfeeding their children. The study was conducted in conjunction with the Heidenheim County Health Department.
The two women were accommodated in the same room with the newborns. During the first few days, one of the women developed symptoms of the coronavirus, after which she and her child were isolated. In the second maternity symptoms have developed after her discharge from the hospital.
Both babies also fell ill.
Scientists have discovered coronavirus only in the milk of the second woman. 14 days later, both mother and baby were healthy and the woman’s breast milk no longer had coronavirus. All the time after she was diagnosed, she was wore a mask when caring for the newborn and has disinfected her hands and chest, as well as all accessories.
However, doctors are not sure if the baby became infected through breast milk or otherwise.
