One of the legendary basketball coaches Jerry Sloan has died at the age of 78, the Utah Jazz team in the NBA announced.

In recent years, Sloan has been diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease and has progressive dementia. He led the “jazzmen” 23 seasons from 1988 to 2011 (1223 games), and in his last season in 2011 he gave up after 54 matches.

“Jerry Sloan was synonymous with Utah Jazz. He will always be part of our club, an integral part of history,” the club said in a statement.

Jerry Saun will forever go down in history with the two Western Conference titles he won in 1997 and in 1998, when the stars of Carl Malone and John Stockton rose. However, their efforts did not reach more than a final with the Chicago Bulls, which included the legend Michael Jordan.

In 2009, Sloan was inducted into the NBA Hall of Fame. As a coach, he has 1272 wins at the helm of the Utah Jazz and Chicago Bulls, second only to other legends such as Don Nelson, Lenny Wilkins and Greg Popovich.
