“The PK 8303 plane with 99 passengers and 8 crew members has crashed,” said a spokesman for the Pakistani airline.
The Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) plane flew from Lahore to Jinnah International Airport in the city of Karachi, one of Pakistan’s busiest airports. Things went wrong during the landing. The pilot reportedly reported a technical issue a few minutes before the crash.
The plane crashed in a residential area. Images on social media show clouds of smoke rising from behind buildings. Many victims are feared. The Pakistani military and emergency services have pulled out to the crash site to provide relief.
Just days ago, Pakistan started to gradually restart commercial flights suspended due to the corona crisis.
It is the airline’s second crash in less than four years. In 2016, 47 people died when an ATR-42 aircraft crashed.
