Legendary tennis player Ashley Cooper has died at the age of 83 after a long treatment for a serious illness, Reuters reported without specifying what the disease was.

During his career, he won eight Grand Slam titles (four singles and four doubles). He was extremely successful in 1958, when he triumphed at the Australian Open, Wimbledon and the US Open, and won the Australian Open and Roland Garros titles in doubles. A year earlier he became Davis Cup champion with Australia.
