Today, for the first time since the beginning of the pandemic in Cyprus, no new case of coronavirus has been reported. The optimistic result comes in the midst of the government’s easing and lifting of restrictive measures against the spread of the infection.

The zero result was reported from the slightly more than 2400 tests performed today, the Ministry of Health announced.

“The result is not accidental. Everyone’s efforts pay off. We continue with the same determination “, commented the success of the Minister of Health Constantinos Ioannou.

The day without a new case came 75 days after the first two were found infected on March 9. The confirmed cases in the country at the moment are 927, 12 of which are in British air bases.

65% of those infected have recovered.

So far, more than 90,000 tests have been performed in Cyprus, with a population of about 880,000. According to this indicator, the country occupies one of the leading positions in Europe.

The mass testing of the workers in the branches, which resumed their activity this month, is currently underway, within the two phases of lifting the quarantine from May 4 and May 21, respectively. Students, teachers and school staff who returned to the classrooms this week are also examined.

As of Thursday, all restrictions on the movement of people, including the evening hours, have been lifted. Beaches and churches are open today.

Two very important steps for the country’s economic recovery after the virus lie ahead. The hotels will open on June 1 and both international airports on June 9.
