Earlier, both the Afghan government and the Taliban announced a ceasefire during the days of Eid al-Fitr, which begins tomorrow, after a wave of attacks that sparked criticism from the Afghan government that questioned the movement’s seriousness about the peace process.
For its part, the spokesman for the American forces in Afghanistan, Sonny Leggett, welcomed the announcement from both sides, calling on them, via Twitter, to reduce violence to give the peace process an opportunity to consolidate, as he described.
It is noteworthy that at the end of February the United States and the Taliban signed the first peace agreement in more than 18 years of war at ceremonies in Qatar, which stipulated the withdrawal of foreign forces from Afghanistan within 14 months and the start of dialogue between Afghans in March after an agreement Exchange of prisoners.
