A total of 82 prisoners at the heavily guarded Istanbul Silivri prison have tested positive for coronavirus so far, Turkish prosecutors said, quoted by DPA and BTA.
The prisoners are receiving treatment and are “in good health”, according to a statement from the Prosecutor General’s Office.
Ten prisoners were hospitalized and 72 remained isolated in prison.
A prisoner who was initially diagnosed with tuberculosis and later found to be infected with the coronavirus died yesterday, prosecutors added.
Turkey reported a total of 120 prisoners in four prisons infected with the coronavirus on April 28th, but did not disclose the locations of the prisons.
In mid-April, Turkish prisons began releasing 90,000 prisoners as part of a mass amnesty aimed at preventing the spread of the prison pandemic.
