Former team-mate Robin Uthappa understands Sreesanth’s catch to oust Misbah-ul-Haq in the T20 World Cup final. When Misbah’s scoop shot went up against Sreesanth, who had even missed easy catches, he prayed to God that he would not give up on the catch. Uthappa was speaking on the BBC’s Dusra podcast.
In the final of the 2007 T20 World Cup, Joginder Sharma’s unbeaten knock of 12 runs helped Pakistan to win. I was fielding at Long On. I was relieved when the first ball hit the joginder off the stump. Not that Six has not hit. But Misbah hit a six off the next ball. I was still saying it in my mind. We still have potential.

Even when everything was moving in favor of Pakistan, I was hopeful. It means we can win. Misbah’s scoop was on the third ball. When the scoop rose to the fine leg, the fielder was on the short fine leg. He is the one who has given up so many easy catches before. I have seen him hand out even the most catchy catches with ease.
So when the ball went up against him, I ran to the wicket from Long On. He prayed earnestly, “God, do not hold it, but stay in His hands.” You can still see the video of that catch and see where he was after taking that catch. I still believe, it was destiny, that’s what we won the World Cup.
