A Russian psychiatrist has revealed the most effective foods to combat anxiety and depression.
Among the products that reduce anxiety and contribute to the production of serotonin in the human body, responsible for the good mood, and the most effective are bananas, nuts and spinach, said a psychologist from Moscow, Olga Sivuldaeva, told Sputnik.
The expert explained: “A person begins to feel anxiety when the level of serotonin in the body decreases, that is, when we have an imbalance in the Serotonin-Devomin system. Serotonin itself is not present in foods, as products contain one degree or another of the amino acid tryptophan (a component of serotonin). Products that act as antidepressants are bananas, nuts, and spinach.
“Bananas are the most saturated product that boosts Serotonin production. Nuts contain omega-3 fatty acids, which contribute to Serotonin production, and spinach also contains folic acid,” Olga added.
The expert stressed, that Serotonin also affects body temperature, mood, sleep, blood clotting, and appetite, and the expert believes that the average daily intake of these antidepressants is for adequate production of Serotonin: one or two bananas, about 100 grams of nuts and 200 grams of spinach.
