Laudamotion closes base at Vienna Airport

With the closure of the base in Vienna, three hundred jobs will disappear. Ryanair previously threatened to close the base if no agreement can be reached on a salary reduction for the Viennese staff. Vida did not agree to the salary cut because the income would then be lower than the guaranteed minimum wage in Austria.

Laudamotion, which originated from Airberlin subsidiary Niki and was acquired by Ryanair from the late Niki Lauda two years ago, has three other bases: in Düsseldorf, Stuttgart and Palma de Mallorca.

Before the corona crisis, the company maintained regular services from Vienna to Eindhoven and Charleroi. Laudamotion would also fly from Maastricht to Zadar this summer.

Ryanair CEO Michael O’Leary said earlier this month that the Airbus A320s with which Laudamotion flies will be said goodbye. Ryanair itself flies exclusively with Boeing 737s.
