Kiev ready to negotiate the rights of Bulgarians in Ukraine

Ukraine and Bulgaria intend to develop the dialogue on guaranteeing the rights of the Bulgarian community and to resolve all current issues in a constructive spirit. This was discussed at a meeting today between Ukrainian Deputy Foreign Minister Vasil Bodnar and Bulgaria’s Ambassador to Ukraine Kostadin Kojabashev, TASS reported, quoted by BTA.

“Diplomats always find a common language. There is no disagreement between Ukraine and Bulgaria on guaranteeing the rights of the Bulgarian community in Ukraine. We have agreed to resolve all current issues in a constructive spirit,” Bodnar was quoted as saying by the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry’s press service.

The Deputy Minister noted that the ongoing administrative-territorial reform in Ukraine in no way affects the level of guaranteeing the rights of national minorities, in particular those of the Bulgarian community in Odessa region.

According to the information, the countries also praised the role of the Bulgarian community in the development of relations between Ukraine and Bulgaria.

“The Bulgarian side noted the importance of preserving the national, cultural and linguistic identity of the Bulgarian national minority in Ukraine and expressed readiness for further constructive cooperation in resolving all current issues,” the statement said.

The Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasizes that an agreement has been reached to continue the open and constructive dialogue in this area, including at the inter-parliamentary level. Bodnar thanked the Bulgarian side for its readiness to soon provide humanitarian aid to Ukraine in the form of medical means to protect Ukrainian medics.
