It came months before the November US presidential election.
John Ratcliffe will replace Richard Grenell, who intends to join Donald Trump’s campaign headquarters.
Ratcliffe was previously elected to the Texas House of Representatives and belonged to the conservative Republican wing. Donald Trump nominated him for this post in February.
