Four corona deaths were counted today in Limburg. Two of them died in hospital, the other two in residential care centers. With 23 positive tests, the number of new infections in our province is lower than yesterday.
After no deaths were reported yesterday from the Limburg hospitals, two corona victims were regretted today. In the East Limburg Hospital in Genk as well as in the AZ Vesalius in Tongeren, one patient died of the virus in the past 24 hours. This brings the total number of deaths in Limburg hospitals to at least 407. No deaths have been reported from Hasselt Jessa Hospital for 12 days in a row. In the St. Francis Hospital in Heusden-Zolder, the last corona victim dates from May 6. There were also no corona deaths in the Maas and Kempen Hospital in Maaseik this weekend. We did not reach any figures for the Sint-Trudo Hospital in Sint-Truiden and the Maria Hospital in Pelt today.
Residential care centers in our province reported two deaths believed to be related to Covid-19. One resident died yesterday who had tested positive for the virus. The mortality rate in the nursing homes in Limburg is therefore 516.
Increase in new infections
After the number of new infections rose yesterday to 83, there were again considerably less today. In the past 24 hours, 23 Limburgers tested positive for Covid-19. The number of new infections has therefore fluctuated for a long time, although the weekly average indicates an increase over the longer term. This week, an average of 40 new infections per day were counted, compared to 24 last week. The increased test capacity may partly explain the increase. Virologist Marc Van Ranst already confirmed on Sunday afternoon that there is a new breeding ground in Sint-Truiden. In the past three days, 41 new infections were reported there. In our province, a total of 6,144 inhabitants were already infected with the corona virus.
