Today marks five years since the last match that the legendary Iker Casillas played with the Real Madrid shirt. This happened on May 23, 2015 against Getafe. The Royal Club won 7: 3 over their Madrid opponent. It was also Carlo Ancelotti’s last meeting as Real Madrid coach and Martin Jodegaard’s debut with the team’s shirt – at 16 years and 156 days, which made him the youngest player in the history of the club. Casillas remembered that day and used one of the social networks to remind the fans of that moment: “My last match for Real Madrid. I will return one day, “the goalkeeper wrote.
Iker left through the back door – after 25 years of faithful service, 16 seasons for the first team, 725 games and 19 titles. Casillas then continued his career in Porto and left his mark in Portugal. But on May 1, 2019, he suffered an acute myocardial infarction, which interrupted his career at a good time for him. Since then, the goalkeeper has focused on his full recovery. On February 17 this year, Iker Casillas presented his candidacy for the presidency of the Spanish Football Federation.
