Facelift Friday: Dacia Logan – AutoWeek.nl


As an outright budget brand, Dacia is a unique appearance in the Western European car landscape. The adventure under mother Renault started in 2004 with the Logan, a real no-nonsense car, which was lifted a little higher on the ladder in 2008.

Lada also once did good business in our region, roughly in the period when Skoda was also known as a real budget brand. Those brands have left a gap where only one brand has conspicuously indented: Dacia. In 2004, the brand taken by Renault from the slump presented its first new model in years, the Logan.

It was a modest-looking, but equally modern sedan, offering a lot of space and ease of use for a low price. Although we really have to look further east and south (Morocco) for real sales success, the Logan for a small sedan was also quite successful in the Netherlands. Not surprising, because with a 2020 outright incredible starting price of € 8,495, it was an outright bargain. AutoWeek personally brought the very first copy to our country in 2005, but many more would follow.

27 centimeters

Success really started when the Logan MCV was introduced in 2006. Thanks to a huge wheelbase (27 cm longer!) And a high and flat roof, Dacia managed to accommodate three rows of seats in the compact car. With seven seats, plenty of luggage and storage space, a low weight and a starting price of less than 10,000 euros, this Dacia was in one fell swoop the darling of large families with a smaller wallet.

In 2008 both models were thoroughly examined. The charming, inexpensive edge that the original models had undisputed, was skilfully camouflaged. While the ancient Logan still proudly radiated its role as a budget car, the facelifted version seems a bit ashamed of it. On the other hand, the refreshed car undoubtedly looks more modern.


Dacia replaced the triangular grille with the striking blue logo with a more stretched-looking specimen with a chromed logo and also a chromed decorative frame. The headlamps grew by a few centimeters and received a completely clear housing, while smoother one-piece bumpers in molded form certainly provided a higher quality appearance. The rear lights of the sedan also had to believe it, with the orange-colored glazing of the turn signals giving way to clear, silver-colored stuff.

Another striking piece of news can be found on the side. Where the sedan version of the original Logan still has exterior mirrors that are exactly the same on the left and right and therefore extra cost-effective to produce, the car gets asymmetrical copies of the MCV after the facelift, which – the guts – are sprayed on more expensive versions. body color.

With the upgrade of the exterior, the interior was also taken to a higher level. A subtly different design and slightly higher quality materials did much good to the quality feeling here.
