France, Britain and Germany have expressed regret over the US decision to lift key exemptions from international sanctions on Iran’s civilian nuclear projects, which operate under the 2015 nuclear deal, the Associated Press and AFP reported.

Washington unilaterally withdrew in 2018 from the agreement with Iran, which allows to ensure that Iran’s nuclear program will be only for peaceful purposes.

In a joint declaration, the foreign ministries of the three European countries pointed out that these exceptions had guaranteed the peaceful nature of. The countries, which are part of the agreement, along with Russia and China, are consulting with their partners to assess the consequences of the decision, the statement said.

In Tehran, Foreign Ministry spokesman Abbas Mousavi strongly condemned the US actions, calling them a clear violation of UN Security Council Resolution 2231 and the United Nations Charter. He added that if this violates Iran’s right to develop nuclear energy projects, appropriate legal action will be taken.
