Coronavirus: A record 6,000 new infections in India

India reported 6,000 new infections with the new coronavirus in the past 24 hours, the biggest increase in 24 hours since the outbreak began in the country, the Guardian reported.

The data on the newly infected came after the Indian authorities loosened the blockade across the country and resumed some domestic flights.

In India, the number of people infected is now more than 118,000, an increase of about 5 percent compared to yesterday. A total of 3,853 people died after contracting the virus.

Although the current blockade, which was imposed on March 25th, was extended until May 31st by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the rules were eased in areas with fewer people infected.

State governments also have the right to issue their own guidelines on certain issues.
