Ishant Sharma with Zaheer Khan’s shoe-borrowing story
MUMBAI: Indian pacer Ishant Sharma has revealed a number of interesting incidents, including his one-day stint in Zimbabwe and the borrowing of Zaheer Khan’s shoes. Ishant revealed this in a live chat with Mayank Agarwal.
In the words of Ishant: In 2007 Ireland made their ODI debut against South Africa. I was picked for the Test series against England. But suddenly the announcement was made to reach Ireland for the ODIs. There was a cold that pierced the bones.
Seven players, including MS Dhoni, Dinesh Karthik, Robin Uthappa and RP Singh, were unable to cope with the cold.
When I arrived in Ireland, I called the manager for luggage. He replied that it was in the room. In the Ranji Trophy, players had to carry their own baggage. But as the manager said, the luggage did not reach the room. The lack of shoes can make the net worthless before the match. Captain Rahul Dravid came to meet me as I was walking away from training. ‘Why don’t you bowl?
I told Dravid. He was shocked. Dravid asked me how you would play tomorrow. With this, I finally got a pair of Zaheer Khan shoes for my tension and got into a match. – Ishant said with a small smile.
