One of the most memorable screenplays of MT Hariharan was born in 1989. A beautifully rendered film featuring the stories of the famous Northern song in Kerala. Mammootty won the National Award for Best Actor and MTT for Best Screenplay.
Prem Nazir was originally cast for the role of Chandu, but later, Hariharan chose Mammootty for a role so that Mammootty’s body would be better suited. Chandu is one of the great performances of Mammootty’s acting career.
Suresh Gopi played the role of Aromal Cheka, son of Chandu’s uncle and Kalari master. Madhavi as Unniyarcha and Captain Raju as Aringodarai were also in the picture.
Geeta, Jomol, Vineeth, Devan, Unnikrishnan, Sanjay Mitra, Chitra, Sukumari and many more. The songs written by Kaithapram and K Jayakumar, composed by Bombay Ravi, are still popular songs of Malayalees.
There were rumors on social media that Aishwarya Rai and Amitabh Bachchan were starring in the film. Hariharan himself denied it.
