Saha said he started taking more chances after Dhoni announced his retirement from Test cricket in 2014. The 35-year-old continued: “My debut was against South Africa in 2010. But Dhoni was not replaced. VVS replaced Laxman. I wasn’t the one to play. The opportunity came by chance. Laxman had to replace Rohit Sharma. But Rohit and I collided while training. Rohit was injured. With this, I had the opportunity.

I never thought I would get a chance. Rohit scored a century in the warm-up match. But when Rohit was injured, Dhoni asked me to practice. I was confused as to who was behind the wicket. I asked Dhoni who the wicket-keeper is. Dhoni replied that I will stand by the wicket-keeper. Dhoni told me to play as a fielder.

“As long as I am in the Dhoni squad, I was convinced I would not be in the Test squad,” Saha said. ” I had few opportunities. But he learned a lot from Dhoni. He has tried to learn a lot from Dhoni’s batting style and his stumping speed. I made the most of the opportunities I had. “After Dhoni announced his departure, I had more chances.”

Dhoni and Saha have only played together in the Nagpur Test. Sahaka did not take wickets in Test cricket until Dhoni retired.
