Hema wants to continue in a new, smaller location nearby. ‘We have existed for almost a hundred years and have a number of locations in the city that are very large. Given our current range, we need less storage space. So no fewer people are needed, but fewer square meters. The current range remains the same, so customers don’t have to worry about that. ”
A petition to preserve the Hema in the Linnaeusstraat has already been signed more than seven hundred times. “An icon is about to disappear,” said one of the signatories. “There are already plenty of supermarkets in Oostpoort,” said another. “This Hema is part of my life.”
According to the Hema spokesperson, the move will start sometime at the end of this year. ‘We find it heartwarming that the neighborhood wants to keep us, but residents do not have to worry. A new branch in the area will return. ” It is not yet known where that will be.
