A magnitude 5.8 earthquake shook the central Mediterranean, the European Mediterranean Seismological Center (EMSC) said.

The quake was registered shortly before midnight. The epicenter is located closer to the coast of Greece – 224 kilometers southwest of the Greek city of Methoni and 305 kilometers northwest of the Libyan city of Al-Bayda. The hearth is at a depth of 10 kilometers below the sea surface.

This was followed by a series of tremors around the island of Crete, which were between 2 and 4 on the Richter scale.
