Parents who work from home must take care of their child themselves. Students who are ill must also stay at home. “It is an appeal to the parents to provide as much childcare as possible, which is best for everyone,” says Flemish Minister of Education Ben Weyts (N-VA). “Teachers now have the vital task to ensure that healthcare staff can continue to perform their vital tasks. That is why we must also ensure that we put a minimum of burden on teachers and schools and that we stay at home and keep our children as much as possible.”
The new guidelines specifically ask schools to provide childcare for three groups of healthy pupils: children of parents who work in a crucial sector, such as care, safety or distribution, children in a medical or vulnerable situation and children with a difficult home situation.
