QUITO (Sputnik) – Ecuadorian radiologists asked the health minister to urgently deliver personal protective equipment and to prioritize the performance of COVID-19 tests on health personnel treating positive or suspected patients.
“Given the shortage of personal protective equipment in the services of the Ministry of Health and the Ecuadorian Institute of Social Security, we urgently request to equip personal protective equipment, with the required technical standards, to all professionals in imaging services “said Amílcar Vasco Sánchez, president of the Federation of Radiology and Imaging (FERI).
The request was made in a letter addressed to the Minister of Health, Juan Carlos Zevallos.
Another request is to carry out an urgent evaluation of the real state of the operation of imaging services throughout the country and their technical equipment to take corrective measures to guarantee adequate and timely diagnoses.
Ecuador plans allocate $ 101.3 million to equip hospitals throughout the country to attend to the emergency caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, as reported on March 29 by the Minister of Health.
The investment will focus on repowering and increasing the service of intensive care beds for adults.
Throughout Ecuador until March 30, 1,966 positive cases of COVID-19 were registered, 62 deaths and 3,232 suspected cases.
