The minister said that if food is provided to the tastes of the workers, the same would be done. The meeting was attended by the collectors of Kottayam, Pathanamthitta district collectors and district police chiefs. There are about 3500 people in 250 homes. For the past few days, the tahsildar and the collector have visited the area and sought their welfare. There was no complaint. However, the minister told the media that they organized a rally on Sunday.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said on Twitter that other state workers cannot be deported. Traveling now would sabotage the Kovid defense measures. The Chief Minister said that a senior IAS officer has been appointed to ensure the safety and welfare of the workers. The Chief Minister was responding to the protests by the Kottayam Payippad lockdown.
Other states took to the streets in protest. The demand was to arrange for a vehicle to go home when there was no food. The district collector and the district police superintendent reached the spot and spoke to the workers. The district administration assured them that they would supply the North Indian-style food. Then the strikers broke away.
