MotoGP organizer Dorna has confirmed that the Thailand Grand Prix is not scheduled to take place. The race has been postponed due to the corona virus.
Earlier in the day, acting Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul announced that the race was being delayed due to the corona virus. “We have to take into account the global conditions. This is in the interest of the country as well as the participants,” he stated as a reason in conversation with AFP news agency.
The MotoGP organization has now confirmed the news. In a short statement they wrote: “The global outbreak of coronavirus continues to develop. The Thai government has communicated that it is impossible for the OR Thailand Grand Prix to take place on the original date. The FIM, IRTA and Dorna unfortunately have to report that the event, to be held in Buriram on March 22, has been postponed. ”
The parties involved are looking for a new date for the race to take place later in the season.
