According to the politicians, the reason for this measure was the aggravated health situation in Germany.
Furthermore, “Focus” writes that the chair of the interior committee, Andrea Lindholz, called rejection of asylum seekers at the borders “for reasons of health protection and legally permissible”.
Deputy chairman of the CDU / CSU parliamentary group, Thorsten Frei, explained, among other things, that curbing the spread of coronavirus also includes “preventing illegal EU internal migration of asylum seekers by rejecting them”. EU citizens cannot be denied entry to Germany and “non-European foreigners are allowed to” illegally cross the border “.
The Union’s internal policy spokesman, Armin Schuster, raised that magazine that citizens would patiently accept dramatic cuts in their freedoms. He said literally:
“That is why we also have a duty to consistently reduce external health risks.”
The new Sars-CoV-2 virus was first discovered in China in late December. Since then, according to the World Health Organization (WHO) Almost 466,000 people in 200 countries have been infected worldwide, more than 21,000 people have died.
On March 11, the WHO classified the corona spread as a pandemic. To date, 36,508 coronavirus cases have been confirmed in Germany. 198 deaths were registered.
