Chile: constitutional plebiscite postponed until October

The Chilean Chamber of Deputies approved by majority majority to postpone until October the plebiscite that seeks to reform the country’s Magna Carta due to the health crisis caused by the spread of coronavirus.

With 109 votes in favor, one against and one abstention, the Lower House approved to postpone the constitutional plebiscite that was scheduled for April 26 and established a new date of October 25 of this year.
The initiative to reschedule the plebiscite was taken in the face of the health and emergency crisis the country is going through due to the coronavirus. Fact that has provoked harsh criticism of the president, Sebastián Piñera, for mismanagement in the control of the pandemic, and that he was forced to declare “a state of catastrophe” for 90 days to contain the spread of COVID-19.

Mexico

The Government officially declares phase 2 of the coronavirus contingency. President Andrés Manuel López Obrador presented the measures that his government will adopt to face the pandemic that includes the participation of the Secretary of the Navy and the Secretary of Defense, in addition to Public Health.

Cuba

According to the Presidency Cuba digital site, the alternate permanent representative of the island to the UN, Ana Silvia Rodríguez, denounced that amid the COVID-19 pandemic, the US “allocates resources and efforts to denigrate Cuban medical cooperation and threatens countries they receive it. ”
On March 23, the United States State Department published on Twitter a message where it assured that Cuba “offers its international medical missions to those affected with COVID-19 only to recover the money it lost when the countries stopped participating in the abusive program. ”

Spain

The authorities hope to shortly overcome the peak of the coronavirus epidemic, while the Government takes new measures, among which loyalty to political forces and support to companies to overcome the COVID-19 crisis.
