LA PAZ (Sputnik) – The Bolivian Government has warned that the country is at high risk of an explosion of internal contagions of the new coronavirus (causing the disease COVID-19), so it did not rule out measures even tougher than the partial quarantine and progressively imposed restrictions on movement in the last week.

“We have a high probability that in the next few hours we will have a community broadcast, so we ask the population not to leave their homes at the time of the vehicle restriction,” said the Minister of Health of the transitional government, AnĂ­bal Cruz, when reporting a new case of COVID-19, which brings the national total to 16.
The new case is that of a 30-year-old man allegedly infected by a relative who arrived from Spain last weekend, who is technically considered only a suspect while laboratory tests are completed, he explained.
According to the official balance, Of the 16 patients with COVID-19 in Bolivia, seven are imported and nine products of infections in the national territory.

“We do not rule out taking measures of greater impact in the course of the following days if the epidemiological situation so warrants it,” Cruz announced.

The president of the Medical College of La Paz, Luis Larrea, warned this March 20 in a statement to Pan American radio that a sudden increase in cases of COVID-19, the disease caused by the new coronavirus, would put the Bolivian health system in serious trouble. , which has little capacity for hospitalization and treatment.
Bolivia is under an emergency and quarantine decree until March 31, which includes restrictions on the night movement of people and cars, the closure of borders from this March 20 and the total suspension of international flights and all kinds of internal transportation from day 21.

Cruz said that the validity of that decree could be extended, depending on the evolution of the crisis.
