MOSCOW (Sputnik) – The founder of the Chinese technology company Alibaba, Jack Ma, donated to Russia more than a million protective masks and 200,000 tests to detect the coronavirus, the Russian Defense Ministry reported.

“More than a million masks and 200,000 tests to detect the coronavirus donated to the Russian Defense Ministry by the famous Chinese businessman, honorary member of the Russian Geographical Society Jack Ma, were flown in from China by a Russian Aerospace Force aircraft” says the statement.

In his telephone conversation with the head of the Russian military entity, Sergey ShoigĂș, the businessman “stressed that he was deeply moved by the help that Russia gave during the development of the coronavirus pandemic in the People’s Republic of China.”

“We appreciate your selfless efforts to help fight the coronavirus,” said Jack Ma, quoted by the note.
Since March 11, the World Health Organization has classified the coronavirus disease SARS-CoV-2, detected in the Chinese city of Wuhan in late 2019, as a pandemic.
To date, 840 contagion cases have been confirmed in Russia, including two fatal ones. A total of 38 people passed COVID-19.

Globally, more than 487,000 infections with the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus have been detected, including more than 22,000 deaths, according to the American Johns Hopkins University. More than 117,000 people have already overcome the infection.
