About 50 residents of a Spanish city stone a convoy with elderly people sick with coronavirus


A group of fifty residents of La Línea de la Concepción (Cádiz) tried to stop the arrival of a convoy with coronavirus infection in the town. The patients were 28 elderly people who were going to be relocated to a residence in the city of Cadiz.

Specifically, those infected were transferred from the Alcalá del Valle senior center (Cádiz) to the Residence of Free Time of the Line of the Conception. Precisely, this first nursing home suffered a severe focus of coronavirus, causing the death of three residents and the contagion of the majority of residents of the center and more than half of the workers.

A piece of news that fell ill in the town and caused several young people to receive the bus and the ambulances in which the elderly were traveling with stones and other objects.
The National Police had to protect the caravan from the launch of artifacts and even remove a vehicle that they put on the road to prevent the arrival of those infected at the senior center. The agents they arrested the two men that they placed the car to obstruct the entrance of the convoy.
However, the altercations did not end with the installation of the elderly in the residence. The National Police had to set up a device around the nursing home to control the neighbors gathered there. During the night, they burned containers at various points in the city and threw two explosive devices at the agents from the roofs of nearby buildings, which did not cause personal injury.

Peaceful response

Investigators from the La Línea de la Concepción police station have already begun to take the necessary steps to identify the perpetrators of these disturbances.
An image that, according to the mayor of the Cadiz town, Juan Franco, is not representative of the city’s character. In statements to Andalusian regional television, the mayor stressed that “there are four undesirables” and that “although there are people who have shown their rejection of the arrival of the bus, there is also a wave of solidarity.”
And is that against the aggressiveness experienced on the night of Wednesday, March 25, a citizen initiative has promoted applause on Thursday the 26th from the balconies to cheer the elderly transferred of Alcalá del Valle in his recovery in La Línea de La Concepción.

In Andalusia, at the moment, there are more than 3,000 infected and 113 dead. The most affected province is Malaga with 819 active cases and the least is Huelva with 77. In the case of Cádiz, where La Linea de la Concepción is located, there are 278 and it is the third Andalusian province least hit by the coronavirus.
