Willem II surprises with transfer-free arrival of ‘Superboer’: three-year contract

Leeroy Owusu exchanges De Graafschap for Willem II. Both clubs announce this on Thursday. The 23-year-old right back will make the switch-free transfer next summer.

Owusu signs a three-year contract in Tilburg starting in the 2020/2021 season. “I am happy to play for the current number four in the Eredivisie after the summer,” he responds to the Willem II site. “Hopefully Willem II will be able to maintain this line in the coming years. But for that matter I am fully focused on De Graafschap. We want to promote to the Eredivisie and I will do my very best for that!”
Since the summer of 2018, Owusu has played for De Graafschap, which took over from Almere City FC. Before that he was under contract with Excelsior and he went through the youth training of Ajax. In two seasons at Young Ajax, the wing defender came to 59 games.
“There has been interest in Leeroy for quite some time, we absolutely did not want to let him go last summer and this winter”, explains Peter Hofstede, technical manager of De Graafschap, on the club site. “At the end of this season it is a good time for both the club and him to take this step. Now that all the ink has dried up, we, together with Leeroy, will be full again for a great end to this season.”
