CARACAS (Sputnik) – The Venezuelan government has been activating the epidemiological surveillance system in the maritime and air terminals of that South American nation for five weeks, said Health Minister Carlos Alvarado.

“In Venezuela we have maintained the epidemiological surveillance system activated in airports and ports for five weeks. In these, 93 people who come or have passed through China have been followed up, none of them has developed symptoms,” Alvarado said. to the Venezuelan News Agency (AVN).

Alvarado highlighted the importance of keeping the spaces clean and adequate ventilation, not sharing utensils and going to health centers in case of fever or breathing difficulties.

On February 3, the minister announced that the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) would deliver the kits to detect the coronavirus strain.

The first case of coronavirus in Latin America was confirmed in Brazil and it is a 61-year-old citizen who was in northern Italy between February 9 and 20 on a work trip.

The coronavirus already infected more than 81,200 people and caused more than 2,700 deaths, mostly in mainland China.
